HOW TO USE DRIED MINCED GARLIC AND GARLIC FLAKES

There are hundreds of ways in which dried garlic could be used to flavor dishes. Some of the top options are as follows:

 

  • For fluid dishes such as soups, stews etc., the fluid softens and refreshes the food and
  • gives the taste off. Ramen Noodle Soup, or Green Bean Stew, like this mushroom soup
  • (Braised Green Beans).
  • Seasoning and blending with spices – bagel seasoning or Simple Homemade Italian
  • Seasoning.
  • Can also be mixed into sauces- such as Tahini Sauce Lemon Herb, Marinara Sauce or
  • Simple Red Pepper Sauce.
  • It can be sprinkled over rice and other cooked grains, like the Perfect Jasmine Rice Fluffy
  • (stove top) or the Simple Coconut Rice Recipe.
  • Used for garnishing sushi and sushi bowls.
  • Smaller minced pieces of garlic can be sprinkled over breads, baked breads, multigrain
  • breads or whole wheat bread.
  • It can be used as a Sprinkle over pizza, It is placed above sauce but below cheese and/or
  • other topping

Although garlic flakes are good for sauces and dressings, it is best not to use them in olive oil sourced dressings because they will not hydrate and stay in hard pieces. Where its difficult to hydrate them, smaller minced flakes shall be used in such recipes.

RECIPENOTES

  • Approximately ½ teaspoon of minced garlic can be used in place one single fresh garlic
  • clove. Garlic powder can also be used in its place. Around 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • is equal to one clove.
  • Minced Garlic and Garlic flakes are basically the same product. Just the fact that minced
  • garlic are smaller in size.
  • While using the oven if the garlic turns brown then probably the temperature is too high
  • and garlic would be bitter.
  • It’s better to switch off the dehydrator at night and restart the process next morning.
  • Instead of throwing, garlic ends and skins can be used in some homemade veggie.
  • Dehydrator’s temperature can be reduced to preserve garlic’s nutrition. However this will
  • lengthen the drying process. Temperature range of 38-43ºC/100-110°F shall be used to
  • preserve the nutritional properties of garlic. Time required will be around 1-3 days
  • depending on the dehydrator.
