To compare and check the benefits of garlic powder and fresh garlic cloves, it’s difficult to say which is best. Both of them have some limitations and benefits. But if you have to save time and cook quickly and in an undemanding way, organic garlic powder is the best choice for cooking.

Their Nutritional Value

Being a dried and processed food, organic garlic powder is less nutritional in value than fresh garlic as it has fewer calories in it, which is not a bad thing at all. 

According to the Recommended Daily Amount (RDA) for a 2000 calorie-diet, one ounce of fresh garlic (about 6 cloves) contains 27 calories which holds approximately 1g of protein and essential minerals such as; Calcium (3.3% RDA), Iron (1.7% RDA) and Selenium (3.7% RDA). One of the biggest benefits of fresh garlic is its high presence of Vitamin C (15% RDA). 

While as per the recommended use of ¾ teaspoon in recipes, the standard amount of garlic powder contains 8 calories and 0.4g protein. In minerals, it contains 0.2% RDA of Calcium, 0.9% RDA of Selenium and 0.7% RDA of Iron. The biggest loss in powder is loss of Vitamin C which is much lower. 

As per the comparison between garlic powder and fresh garlic, it is right to say that there is a loss for the dry product? Definitely not! Because of its convenience and quick cooking, it makes up for the lower nutritional value

How to Cook with Garlic Powder Vs. Fresh Garlic

There is a variety of spicy foods having their own benefits if eaten daily. But even if you are a lover of hot spicy food, there is always a limit of using spices in adequate quantities which doesn’t harm you if used in large quantities. Putting high quantities of spices in food not only ruin the taste of food but also causes burns to our taste cells on tongue and digestive tracts. 

While comparing the garlic powder and fresh garlic, it is important to understand that you don’t consider the few calories in them to affect your daily plan as it is present in a lesser quantity. Moreover, cooking reduces the nutritional value of fresh cloves. 

The advantage of garlic powder over fresh garlic is very simple. Fresh garlic is required to be crushed, chopped and browned for cooking which consumes time, also the hot pan can ruin the taste of those fresh garlic if overheated. Garlic powder on the other hand is ready to use ingredients which taste the same. 

It should be noted that there is a difference in garlic powder when mixed with acidic ingredients (such as tomatoes). To help this, garlic powder is needed to reconstitute in a few teaspoons of water for about 2-3 minutes before adding it in the pan. With this little effective trick, the taste and use of organic garlic powder will be as good as fresh cloves or maybe better
